Qazigund, Apr 28 (KNO): Tehsil Legal Services Authority (TLSA) Qazigund, Well-Being & Anti-Substance Abuse Cell & National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit of Government Degree College Qazigund jointly organised a legal awareness programme on Road Safety vis-a-vis Substance Abuse in the college campus.
In his address the Principal, Prof (Dr.) Sudhir Singh, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) highlighted the role of educational institutions in nurturing socially responsible citizens. He remarked, “We envision to train our students to be responsible individuals who behave ethically and drive with a strong sense of responsibility. Developing a culture of responsibility among our youth is vital for their own safety and for the safety of others as well,” he added
The Resource Persons on the occasion were Mr. Amir Hamid(Panel Lawyer, TLSA) and Ms.Zahida Aman (Panel Lawyer, TLSA). Adv.Hamid elaborated on the legal implications of juvenile driving, the serious consequences of dangerous and rash driving, and the civic duty of citizens to act as good samaritans. His address carried a heartfelt message, urging students to strictly follow traffic rules, value human life, and adopt responsible driving practices. “Driving under the influence of alcohol & drugs is not only a punishable offence but it also tells upon your responsible behavior. We must carefully observe and report about the drivers who indulge in drunk driving & attend mobile phones putting the lives of not only on board passengers at risk but also pose a serious threat to the pedestrians’ lives also,” he added.
The programme was coordinated by Prof. Nehad Kaniz Fatima (NSS Programme Officer), “Our students are regular commuters and therefore more exposed to road-related risks. Recent tragic accidents on the highway call for legal awareness and preventive education among young drivers,” she added.
The programme was also joined by officers/officials from the Traffic Police Qazigund, who interacted with the students, addressed their queries, and patiently listened to their concerns related to traffic management and road safety.
The event was attended by faculty members, including Prof.AufaqAhmad Zargar (HoD Computer Science), Dr.Ishtiyaq Ahmad Shah(HoD Education), Prof.Talib Ahmad Ganaie (HoD Sociology), Prof.Irshad Ahmad Mantoo (HoD Political Science), and Prof.RameezAhmad Shah (HoD EVS).
The programme witnessed active participation from students and faculty members and concluded with an interactive session, reinforcing the importance of legal awareness, road safety, and responsible civic behaviour—(KNO)
